You would assume that if a sales prospect calls your business or requests information that they would have some motivation. That may be true, but the level of motivation that your sales prospect has may not be sufficient for them to start with your business right now. It’s your job to help them with their motivation and once you do that their objections melt away and you will make a sale.
Sales People Call Them “Tire Kickers”
I have seen business owners and sales people make the terrible mistake by labeling these mildly motivated prospects as “tire kickers” or “time wasters”. In fact this couldn’t be farther from the truth. If you label the sales prospect as someone who is not serious and is just wasting your time you will be right. Having your head stuck in this thought pattern doesn’t allow you to see what is really happening. Eventually your sales prospect will not get what they are needing to move forward and leave your business unsatisfied only to try one of your competitors, and that hurts!

The fact is that every sales prospect needs to go through a sales motivational process or series of steps before they buy from your business. Your sales prospect will start this process them selves and will work through it with or without your help. If they happen to get far enough through the sales motivational process when they are speaking with another sales person, you have lost the sale. If you help them through it they are not likely to go anywhere else.
Sounds simple right? It is simple but it does require a process so you can be effective!
So the next time you are talking to a sales prospect ask yourself where are they in the sales motivation process. Are they just getting started, needing information or need help to get over their emotional resistance to move forward and make a sales purchase with your business.
